We warmly invite all prospective members. After your first visit, you may feel that the music is a little too easy or a little too challenging—and that’s completely okay. The Musical Director (MD) will have a friendly chat with you after the rehearsal and help you find the ensemble where you’re most likely to feel comfortable, confident and able to enjoy making music. This isn’t based on age or ability alone; we look at a range of factors so that we can find the best and most welcoming fit for you.
It’s a lovely opportunity to meet everyone, see how rehearsals work and get a feel for the band in a relaxed and friendly setting. If you’d like to, you’re very welcome to bring your instrument and play along. You can also watch with your parent or guardian, or “sit in” with your section and follow the music while the band plays. There’s absolutely no pressure to perform—we know that joining a band for the first time can feel a little daunting, so please take your time and join in whenever you feel ready
