On Friday 30 June 30 2023, Doncaster Youth Jazz Association present our ‘Big Band and Jazz Festival’ at the CAST theatre in Doncaster – The day is a celebration, in recognition of 50 years of outstanding music education in Jazz and light music!
The festival will launch with a schools concert featuring “YolanDa’s Band Jam” a critically acclaimed CBeebies children's television show, presented by double award winning Musician and Broadcaster YolanDa Brown, inspiring the next generation of Jazz musicians.
During the evening performance, the Youth Jazz and Big Band Festival will be a lavish extravaganza of young talent from Doncaster and South Yorkshire. It is the beginning of what we hope will develop into an annual showcase for Youth Jazz from across the UK.
Opening the show are Doncaster Youth Stage band, the youngest of our ensembles, who quite appropriately, will be conducted by our founder John Ellis MBE.
Doncaster Youth Swing band will then contribute a programme of swing, latin and Jazz/rock classics that will delight any big band enthusiast.
The evening concludes with our most experienced and aspirational ensemble, Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra. Featuring the very best young Jazz musicians from Yorkshire, DYJO will be performing alongside our guest soloist, International Trombonist, composer and arranger Mark Nightingale, whose virtuosity on the Trombone is simply breath-taking.
With an extensive repertoire of Big band and Jazz standards that range from Swing to Soul, the programme is certain to appeal to everyone! Make sure you get a ticket, for what will be an incredible evening, involving over 70 future Jazz stars!
