This prestigious national honour recognises DYJA’s outstanding contribution to jazz education and its long-standing commitment to nurturing young musicians. It’s a wonderful acknowledgment of the dedication, creativity, and passion that our tutors, students, families, and supporters bring to the DYJA community.
“We’re thrilled and deeply honoured to receive this award,” said Mark Sabin, Musical Director. “It reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of everyone involved with DYJA — from our young musicians to our teaching team and supporters. Together, we’re helping keep jazz education vibrant and accessible for future generations.”
About the Parliamentary Jazz Awards
The All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards are widely regarded as the premier awards in the UK jazz calendar. Organised by the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG), the awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and service across the entire UK jazz scene — from musicians and educators to venues, organisations, and journalists.
Held annually at the House of Commons, the awards bring together leading figures from across the British jazz community, along with Members of Parliament, to recognise the incredible contributions that keep jazz thriving nationwide.
A Proud Moment for Doncaster
To receive national recognition at this level is a tremendous honour for Doncaster and for everyone who has been part of the DYJA journey. For over 50 years, DYJA has provided opportunities for young people aged 7–19 to develop their skills, creativity, and confidence through jazz.
Our ensembles — including the renowned Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra — continue to perform across the UK and abroad, showcasing the remarkable talent emerging from South Yorkshire.
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported DYJA over the years — parents, teachers, alumni, audiences, and local partners — for helping us continue to inspire the next generation of jazz musicians.
Thank you for being part of our story — and here’s to the next 50 years of jazz in Doncaster!
